Rodez is a town with 25 000 inhabitants situated in the south of France between Montpellier and Toulouse in a hilly area at the border of the Cantal surrounded by a lot of picturesques villages. It is the capital and the economic and cultural center of the Departement Aveyron. Rodez has a lot of schools for the greater area and two universities with 3600 students. The inner city lies high up and is dominated by the huge gothic cathedral Notre Dame de Rodez which was built over a period of more than 300 years beginning in 1277.

To get to know one of the Green Spaces of Rodez we walked to the Park Layoule which is situated along the river Aveyron. The Park Layoule is the big recreation area of the town which is very densely built up in the centre with only a little park around the Musée Soulages. The Park Layoule offers wide spaces of green meadows along the river for wildlife and for recreational activities.

Next up was a visit to the Musée Soulages: from the diversity of colours in nature to “the painter of black”.
