We had an online-talk with Violeta Insa Sandoval about the role of women in Africa.

Violeta Insa is the Spanish Ambassador in Gambia. She did voluntary work in a lot of countries and was e.g. on as an Erasmus student in Romania. She felt a vocation to become a politician and diplomate and works now in the embassy of Gambia which is the smallest country of the continent of Africa. Her tasks are to represent Spain in Gambia, to help the Spanish people in Gambia when they have problems, to encourage Spanish companies to work with Gambia and to support NGOs working in Gambia.

Violeta likes to meet people from different countries and cultures and has learned that the concerns are everywhere the same. She is especially interested in the role of women: In Gambia they work harder than men but aren’t represented in parliament. Another problem is genital cutting which is forbidden but is carried out on more than 50% of the girls.

Violeta encouraged especially our female students to be brave and go for their dreams!

We took the next step in terms of everyone’s actions with a workshop about „The Ecological Handprint”.
